South from the Mackinaw Bridge
The [ Mackinaw Bridge ] is the 7th largest bridge in the world. When it was opened in November 1957, it was the longest bridge in the world at 26,372 feet (5 miles) total, 8614 feet suspension. The main towers are 552 feet in height. It costs $4 to cross in a car or motorcycle.

Here is a [ movie ] of the entire crossing:
The road south from the bridge (Hwy 23) along the shores of Lake Huron is wide, nearly unused other than local traffic, smooth and has lots of places to pull off and drink mate. Here is a [ video ] of Saturdays highlights:
Breakfast started out at Darrow's Family Restaurant, corned beef and coffee. Not what I was expecting, but an entire day's meal for sure:

Perhaps what I needed? In any case, the server was probably the nicest person I have ever encountered. Just super nice, as everyone in this state evidently is.
Down the road a bit, I stopped to look at Lake Huron and back at the bridge at a wayside (which would be called a rest area in Utah):

It was shockingly cold (56 deg F!), quite a difference from 89 deg in South Dakota.
I met a really nice couple on a Harley:

which rekindled my desire to purchase a Harley Davidson cruiser. They assured me that there was no problem with this bike on gravel:

And so began an entire day of stopping at waysides, taking pictures:
Then three lighthouses needed inspection:

followed by a short drive to the Old Presque Isle lighthouse:

Which was only used for a few years. Again, there was a keepers house and a view:
Just around the corner a few miles is the new lighthouse:

A climb to the top:
I met a very nice couple at the bottom who had just gotten married and I took their wedding pictures for them, on their iOS phone. I checked and I think they turned out great.
Here is a [ video ] from the top of this light house:
Sunday I think I will find some more lighthouses!
